I heard a quote once that said:
Not my Circus
Not my Monkeys.
This comes in quite handy in any number of situations in day-to-day life. However, this is exactly my circus and these are definitely my monkeys.
In my 30s I realized I couldn’t find any stories I wanted to read. Everything was either too involved, too complex, too much romance, too much sex, and none of it seemed to fit my own experiences very well.
In 2009ish I found something called NaNoWriMo. I had a vague idea for a story and decided to give it a try. I didn’t have a laptop and somehow convinced myself I could write an entire 50,000 word story, by hand, in a spiral bound notebook. I still have that notebook and hope that someday I can possibly return to that story and finish it.
In the meanwhile, I finally got a laptop and in 2011 wrote Bathtubs in a Field. A story about a woman facing retirement who suddenly realizes she has no idea what she is going to do with herself in retirement. She goes looking for hobbies and ways to fill up her time and ends up meeting someone. Of course, there are bumps along the road, but there is a Happily Ever After.
Since then I have attempted NaNo nearly every year. Many years I have also attempted the spring/summer challenges, Script Frenzy and Camp NaNoWriMo. Some years I succeded, some years I didn’t. In the end, I now have 4 novels-2 completed but unedited, 2 started but as yet unfinished.
At the end of 2017 I found an online writing group on Facebook. At the beginning of 2018 I joined the paid coaching group to further hone my craft. As a result, I finished one of the novels I had started during NaNoWriMo, 30 Dates or Less.
Now, in 2019, I took another paid coaching class, joined a few more Facebook groups looking for more community and support, and am pursuing my writing career with gusto.
Here on my website, My Circus, if you will, you will find sample covers for my books, excerpts or synopses of the stories, an Undying Gratitude page, primarily for patrons that are supporting me through Patreon, a page showing where you can find my published works, and under My Journal you will find my thoughts on any number of subjects.
